About a year ago three guys had the idea to open a bike shop in Chicago that would cater to the needs of the cyclist and would be a part of their community. A business not based on bottom lines but built on an organic idea that might have been forgotten years ago. That when you help a cyclist back up on two wheels the effect can change the world we live in, At least a little bit. We are cyclists just like you and you have probably looked over at us while waiting at a stop light. We promise never to forget that and to always be on the side of the biker.
Now here is where you come in. We need all your loves and your gripes (however small) about local bike shops (please no names) so we can start to build you the store you would like. It is imperative that you not use the name of other stores in your posts. We are not looking to bad mouth anyone, merely cater to your wishes. So Chicago we are waiting for your directions............

I dont pretend to know all the bike shops in chicago, but there are a few I like, but all for different reasons. Instead of trying to explain them all, I'm just going to give you a couple of shops that I like (with names, sorry) and tell you to stop in as different types of customers. All seem like they'd be friendly enough talking to someone getting into the business as well.
ReplyDeleteJohnny Sprockets:
Come here as a bike nerd looking to get a new toy. Talk to the guys about what youre looking for, what kinds of upgrades you can get (wheels, etc).
Smart Bike Parts:
Come here for your consumables and to hang out. Buy some tires and tubes or something. Make sure you talk to Eric, the owner. Anything special you want, he can get and get you a good deal on.
Boulevard Bicycles:
Come to browse a great selection of cool parts. Saddlebags, handlebars, that sort of thing. Also come for service on your older bike (bearings, etc).
Thanks for your feedback. You could not be more right my partner and I have been to all these shops and agree to your descriptions. In fact we suggest them to our customers when we do not carry what they are looking for.
ReplyDeleteWe are trying to use the information we gather to produce a shop that is inviting and gets people what they want and need regardless of their riding style and ability. Honesty is one of our founding principals so if we do not have it or cannot get it we will point you in the right direction. Thanks again for your time.
